Welcome to the Youth Programs page at Oakhurst Recreation Center! Here, you'll discover an exciting lineup of engaging and enriching activities for youth until the end of 2023. We have carefully curated a range of programs that cater to different interests, ages, and skill levels, ensuring there's something for everyone.

HeARTS to Hands
HeARTS to Hands allows children to take their ideas and imagination and bring them to fruition. Kids enjoy hands-on discovery and self-exploration while being able to create art. By putting emphasis on the process of creating instead of the outcome; students feel free to make mistakes, find solutions for themselves and create. Mondays, ages 8-12, 4-5 p.m.
Wednesdays ages 4-8, 4-5 p.m.

Hip Hop, Tap & Jazz
Dive into the energetic world of hip-hop, tap, and jazz in this beginner's class! Perfect for children ages 4-7 who are new to these dance styles, this class focuses on the basics of rhythm, body movement, and timing. You'll learn basic steps, turns, and combinations, all while improving your flexibility, coordination, and rhythm. This class is a great way to explore dance in a fun, energetic, and welcoming setting. No previous dance experience is needed – just come ready to make some noise and have a great time! Mondays, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Kashima Shinto Iai
Ever wanted to swing a sword like a Samurai? Learn the process and internal discipline necessary to do it without injuring yourself from 3rd Degree Black belt Dr. David Renner; who has almost 3 decades of experience! 
Day: Thursdays
Time: 7 p.m.
Age: 16+

Mini Maestros
For our youngest musicians, ages 2.5 to 5, we are proud to offer weekly preschool music class. Our preschool music teachers cover fundamental musical concepts, exploration of music history, and new instrument discovery every week. Must be potty trained to participate.
Day: Thursdays
Time: 3-3:30 p.m.
Age: 2.5-5

Shotokan Karate
The most common style of karate in the world and became an Olympic sport in the Tokyo 2020 games. Now you can learn this art regardless of age or experience! Dr. David Renner has been training since 1985 and regularly worked with Team USA Karate. If you are looking to improve focus, discipline, and self-confidence in a fun and safe environment, register now.
Day: Tuesdays
Time: 4-4:45 p.m. - Ages 5-7, pre-karate
4:50-5:40 p.m. - Ages 8-15 and parents
5:45-6:45 p.m.- Ages 16+
Spring Session - April 9-May 28

SkateATL (McKoy Skatepark)
Our skateboarding program fosters confidence through safe, fun lessons tailored to beginners and intermediates. Learn foundational skills, history, culture, and mechanics. Beginners master riding, while intermediates focus on tricks. Classes include stretching, instruction, goal-setting, and free skate time. Join us for an enriching skateboarding experience.
Day: Tuesdays
Time: 4:30 p.m. - Ages 5-9
5:30 p.m. - Ages 10-14
6:30 p.m.- Ages 15-17

Toddler Yoga
Welcome to Toddler Story Time Yoga, a magical journey where little ones explore adventures through breath, movement, and imagination! In this playful class, toddlers learn mindful breathing, blending captivating storytelling with yoga poses for a unique experience. Interactive games add extra fun, ensuring your toddler leaves with a happy heart and calm mind. Join us for a delightful blend of stories, movement, and joy!
Day: Saturdays
Time: 1 p.m.
Age: 2-4

Tot Time
Specifically designed for toddlers ages 1-4 yrs, we’re creating a safe space for them to play and explore age-appropriate games, toys, and activities with their caregivers. Whether you want to get out of the house or come in from the cold or rainy weather, all are welcome. Feel free to bring your favorite toys as well.
