McKoy Skate Park

McKoy Skate

Originally built in December 2003 through a partnership with Home Depot, KABOOM, and the City of Decatur, McKoy Skate Park has long served as a gathering place for the local skate community. Over time, the original equipment aged, and with replacement parts no longer available, maintaining the park became increasingly difficult.

In response, members of the Decatur High School Skate Club advocated for improvements to the facility. In 2022, the Decatur City Commission approved a renovation of McKoy Skate Park, supported in part by a $200,000 donation from an anonymous donor.

The redesigned skate park reopened in 2024 following a complete rebuild. The updated layout replaces the former prefabricated features with concrete elements and offers a refreshed space intended to better serve skaters of varying skill levels. Input from the Decatur High School Skate Club helped inform the overall direction of the project.

Today, McKoy Skate Park continues to be an important recreational asset for the community and a dedicated space for skateboarding in Decatur.
