The City of Decatur is proud to collaborate with residents, community leaders, and organizations to create a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community. Our boards, committees, and partnerships provide opportunities for civic engagement, input on city initiatives, and impactful action that shapes the future of Decatur.
Key Boards and Committees
1. Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
This board provides oversight and guidance for the City’s parks and recreation programs. It collaborates with committees, such as the Active Transportation Committee, to enhance active transportation and safe routes for the community.
2. Active Transportation Committee
Promoting Decatur as a walk-friendly and bike-friendly community, this committee supports programs like Safe Routes to Parks and Safe Routes to School. It advocates for safe and accessible transportation infrastructure, hosts educational initiatives, and advises on policies to improve mobility for all residents.
3. Safe Routes to School Committee
Operating under the Active Transportation Committee, this group focuses on creating secure, accessible, and enjoyable pathways for students to walk and bike to school. By improving infrastructure, engaging stakeholders, and educating on safe travel practices, the committee promotes active transportation and community well-being.
Collaborative Partnerships
Decatur is proud to be recognized as a UNICEF Child Friendly Candidate City. This prestigious partnership with the Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) highlights Decatur’s commitment to prioritizing the voices, rights, and well-being of children and youth. Through this initiative, Decatur actively works to create a city where young people feel empowered, included, and supported.
Key goals of the CFCI partnership include fostering meaningful youth engagement, ensuring equitable access to services and opportunities, and building a community that values and uplifts its youngest residents.
