2013 Flood Plain Updates

DeKalb County, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources – Environmental Protection Division (GA DNR-EPD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has completed a countywide revision of the Flood Insurance Rate Maps and Flood Insurance Study for DeKalb County and the following municipalities: Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Chamblee, Clarkston, Decatur, Doraville, Dunwoody, Lithonia, Pine Lake, and Stone Mountain. This Flood Insurance Study became effective May 16, 2013 and was revised August 15, 2019 and includes charts and a narrative report of local flooding to be used by permit officials for development in the floodplain.

The Flood Insurance Study and its preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps were presented during two Open Houses in January of 2012 held for the public. During these Open Houses, representatives from the County, the Cities, GA DNR-EPD and FEMA provided the most current information regarding the countywide flood risk, flood insurance, floodplain development regulations, floodplain mapping, and timeline for the Flood Insurance Study / the Flood Insurance Rate Maps adoption. The countywide floodplain maps were displayed.
