Streets Maintenance

Six employees are responsible for keeping the City's approximately 60 miles of roadways open and passable, generally focusing on specific roadway elements:

  • Curbs - granite and concrete
  • Sidewalks
  • Street, directional, speed limit and warning signage
  • Pavement markings
  • Tree removal support during emergencies
  • Investigation and handling of property-owner complaints and city-generated work requests

The crews perform repair and maintenance of street pavement, including pothole repair, patching, and maintenance of unpaved public streets and alleys, street signs, curbs, and sidewalks. They are responsible for pavement markings such as crosswalks and stop bars at intersections, and the installation and maintenance of speed humps. They also take care of plowing snow and spreading sand when winter storms affect the roadways. Employees in this division also respond to emergencies involving roadway obstructions such as fallen trees and pavement failures.

Street Lights

All street lights (not traffic signals) in the City's rights-of-way are operated and maintained by Georgia Power on behalf of the City. To report a problem with a street light you may call Georgia Power at 1-888-660-5890. Georgia Power will request the address of the property where the light is located, or the pole number, in order to locate and repair the light.
