  • If you have 10 or more employees you will need to also submit an e verify form.
  • If you are not a U.S. resident you will need to also submit a save affidavit form.

To apply for a new Business License:

  1. Go to Decatur OneMap and ensure the business address is within city limits.
  2. If you are a new or existing business in the City of Decatur and you own, lease or sublease a commercial space or have a home business, you are required to obtain a permit first.

    2. All Home Based or Virtual Businesses
    3. Any Businesses Selling Alcohol Need To Complete These Forms
  4. Any Business that is Doing Construction or Renovation must request building inspections and a 50%, 80% and 100%/final fire inspection. Login into Community Core with the Login that was Given, click "Schedule Inspections" and choose: first a 50% inspection, after you pass the 50% then go back into the system and request an 80%, after you pass the 80%, you will request a 100% inspection. If you are a New Business or Change of Business without Renovations you will have to do the same procedure of either creating a login for Community Core through permits@decaturga.com or simply login into Community Core. Instead of needing a 50%, 80%, and 100% inspection you will need to request an "Annual Inspection".
  5. When you have your 100% or Annual fire and business inspection ensure inspectors sign the Business Application Form (From Step 2) or you can email it to the Fire Marshal with a copy of your approved 100% or Annual fire inspection and then the building official Greg Curtis for signatures with proof of approved inspections. Community Core will automatically send a copy of a Business Occupancy Load Placard for your business to display prominently. Then send your signed and completed business application, and a copy of your driver’s license, to Javonne Harris at Javonne.Harris@decaturga.com.
  6. Once the building official signs the form and emails it back, email the form from Step 4, and a complete package (copy of employer ID number, notarized saved affidavit and e-verified affidavit, a food service permit-if it is an eatery), and a check (See Step 7 Below) to the revenue officer, Javonne.Harris@decaturga.com.
  7. To know the amount for the check made out to City of Decatur (the total is $25 + occupation tax), see https://www.decaturga.com/adminservices/page/business-license to calculate).

  • City of Decatur Fire completes annual inspections of all businesses in the city. We expect new construction to request permits for 50%, 80%, 100%, fire alarms, sprinklers, occupancy change, and change/new ownership. Our inspectors do food truck inspections and offer an annual sticker to demonstrate the vehicle is in compliance for up to a year. We have attached forms to advise customers what we look for in all types of inspections and in all types of plan review.  In addition, persons may be fined for additional re-inspections, multiple false alarms, and such. We also allow people to donate property or buildings for the fire department to use for training. We appreciate the opportunity to  practice on real structures when we get the chance.
  • The fire and rescue department are associated with a fee schedule .
