Prevention Information
Did you know cooking is one of the most common causes of the fires to which we respond?
How can you prevent cooking fires?
- Never leave cooking food unattended
- Turn pot handles away from the edge of the oven, but not over another active burner
- Keep a fire extinguisher near the kitchen, but not so close to the oven that you couldn't reach it if there was a fire
- Don't wear loose or ill-fitting clothing while cooking
- Keep the oven and range top clean and free of grease or build-up of grime

Holiday Safety Tips:
- Don't leave candles burning unattended or within reach of children or pets (or tails!)
- Make sure your tree is watered regularly...always check to see if the water receptacle is dry.
- Don't use indoor extension cords for outdoor holidays lights (or indoor lights outdoors).
- Don't use nails to hang your lights...the nail can damage the wire casing and make contact with the wire. Don't use lights with frayed or broken wiring.
- Make sure decorations are flame retardant.
