The Decatur City Commission passed a temporary Weekend Open Container Ordinance that allows restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages in open containers within the boundaries of the five business districts including Decatur Downtown Business District, Old Depot District, West Ponce Business District, East College Business District and Oakhurst Business District. The temporary ordinance expires September 7, 2021. The ordinance allows the sales on Fridays from 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. and Saturdays from 3 p.m. – 1 a.m. every week.

Patrons must stay within the boundaries of the identified business districts and allows people to sit outdoors and enjoy take-out including an alcoholic beverage in an open container from participating restaurants.

Restaurants must serve the alcoholic beverages in the approved neon green “KeepItIndieDecatur” labeled stadium cups and give their patrons 21 years of age or older the approved neon green wristband to wear.

Participating restaurants will post maps of their particular business district so patrons are aware of the boundaries of each district. Information may also be found on various social media channels and on signs. For information contact Shirley Baylis, Shirley.baylis@decaturga.com.
