The City of Decatur is accepting Statements of Interest from community members interested in serving on the newly established City of Decatur Task Force on Homelessness.
Created by the City Commission, the advisory task force will study homelessness and housing instability in Decatur and develop recommendations to help inform future City policies, partnerships and investments. Over approximately nine months, members will assess current conditions, review data, evaluate existing services, identify gaps and explore strategies that support both individuals experiencing homelessness and the broader community.
The task force will examine topics including homelessness and housing instability, behavioral health and crisis response, supportive services, regional partnerships, community engagement, funding opportunities and measurable strategies to address homelessness.
The City encourages Statements of Interest from individuals representing a broad range of backgrounds and perspectives, including those with professional, volunteer or lived experience related to homelessness, housing, healthcare, behavioral health, public safety, education, business, faith communities and community advocacy.
Applicants should be collaborative, respectful of diverse perspectives and committed to developing thoughtful, community-informed recommendations. Members should be available to dedicate approximately 10 hours per month for meetings, preparation and committee work. Service is voluntary and appointments will span approximately nine months.

- Skills or perspectives they would contribute
- Any organizations or community sectors they represent
- Their ability to commit to active participation throughout the task force process
