George lives on Wilton Drive with his wife, Courtenay, and their two sons.  They came to Decatur for the schools, walkability and community.  With the encouragement of Commissioner Scott Drake, George helped found the Downtown Decatur Neighbors to give voice to the concerns of downtown residents. He also was a co-founder of the Decatur Parents Network, whose goal is to strengthen ties between Decatur city school parents and promote a nurturing environment that encourages kids to make safe, smart decisions. George has served as secretary of the Decatur High School PTSA and is a graduate of the 2017 class of Leadership DeKalb.

George grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and holds a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law.  After law school, he spent ten years working for Congressman John Lewis, serving as his legislative director in Washington D.C. and district director in Atlanta. George left the congressman's office to serve as executive director for Park Pride and then as commissioner for Parks and Recreation for the City of Atlanta. For the past three years, he has been the Georgia-Alabama state director for The Trust for Public Land, a non-profit dedicated to preserving land and building parks for people.

Over the years, George has held leadership positions with EarthShare of Georgia, Historic Oakland Foundation, the BeltLine Network, Candler Park Neighborhood Organization and Friends of Candler Park, among other organizations.

In his free time, George enjoy tennis, bicycling, bridge and spending time outdoors with his family.
