The City of Decatur is launching a limited Lime pilot program through the remainder of Decatur WatchFest ’26 to support event travel and to evaluate whether scooters and bikes could serve as a long‑term mobility option in the city. The pilot is expected to begin this week and will operate through the end of WatchFest on July 19, 2026.

The program offers another convenient way to reach WatchFest events without a car and helps the City learn how shared scooters and bikes function in Decatur.

The temporary program will bring Lime e-scooters and bikes to a defined service area centered on Downtown Decatur. The pilot zone includes Church Street, East Ponce de Leon Avenue, College Avenue, West Howard Avenue, South McDonough Street and Oakview Road. Riders will use the Lime app to locate a device and must start and end trips within the designated service area. Parking is encouraged in marked corrals to help keep sidewalks clear and accessible. Improperly parked scooters will result in penalties to the rider.

Lime strongly recommends that all riders wear a properly fitted helmet while operating a e-scooter or bike.

Users download the Lime app, create an account, locate a scooter on the in-app map, and scan the QR code on the scooter to begin a trip. Pricing and any promotional offers are managed through the Lime platform.

A key component of this pilot is the use of designated parking corrals. Riders must park scooters upright and out of pedestrian travel paths. The Lime app requires riders to end their trip within approved parking locations and submit a photo of the parked scooter. Improperly parked scooters will result in penalties to the rider.

The pilot will operate through the remainder of WatchFest. At the conclusion of the pilot on July 19, 2026, staff will evaluate usage data, public feedback, and operational performance before making any recommendations regarding continued deployment.

Community members are encouraged to report poor rider behavior, parking issues, and other concerns through any of Lime's 24/7/365 customer service channels:

Scooters are intended for use on streets and bicycle facilities. Riders are expected to follow traffic laws and use bike lanes where available. Riding on sidewalks is prohibited. Riders must be at least 18 years old to rent and operate a shared Lime device.

The pilot is intended to support WatchFest by providing an additional transportation option for short trips in Decatur and longer trips between Decatur and Atlanta, while also allowing the City to collect real-world data on demand and bike/scooter travel patterns.
