Construction Projects

The Stormwater Utility has stepped up maintenance efforts and undertaken several construction projects to maintain and improve the existing system over the last three years. Small repairs and upgrades that do not require heavy or specialized equipment are performed by in-house crews; however, larger projects are bid on and contracted out. A sampling of improvement projects completed are:

  • Replacement of a failed culverts at Glenlake Park, Willow Lane, South McDonough Street, Northern Avenue, West Hill Street, and Fayetteville Road.
  • Additions to the storm sewer system at the intersection of Kings Highway and West Davis Street, the intersection of West Ponce de Leon Avenue and Fairview Avenue, the intersection of Patillo Way and West Howard Avenue, the downtown improvements on Maple Street, Church Street, East Trinity Place, East Howard Avenue, and Barry Street, and the intersection of Lockwood Terrace and Fairview Street.

Where feasible, projects listed were performed in conjunction with the City's streetscapes project to minimize the overall disruption to those areas. Several smaller stormwater system repair projects have been performed by in-house crews throughout the City. Future repair and improvement projects will be prioritized based on Stormwater Master Plan recommendations, unanticipated system failures, and other regulatory requirements.
