Gael Doyle Earns 2026 Thomas O. Davis Award
During the recent State of the City Address, Gael Doyle was honored as the 2026 recipient of Decatur’s Thomas O. Davis Award. The award recognizes a public employee who strengthens the bond between government and the community, serves as a role model in public service, contributes to community well-being, inspires others to get involved, and serves the public with respect. It is named for Decatur’s longtime city attorney, Thomas O. Davis, who served from 1968 until his death in 2000.
Gael joined the City in 2021 in the Parks and Recreation Department and has made a meaningful impact in a short period of time. Colleagues describe her as a steady, service-minded professional who focuses on supporting residents rather than seeking recognition. While her work includes writing and producing Parks and Recreation materials, including The Playbook and the department website, she is also known for stepping in wherever help is needed.
Gael regularly supports City events and programs through outreach, photography, and on-site assistance. Her nominator, Karen Minvielle, highlighted Gael’s professionalism, preparation, and calm problem-solving across multiple events, including community tabling, a three-day League of American Bicyclists training, recycling efforts during Decatur FC matches, and the July 4 celebration, where Gael rode a bike in the parade to promote an active lifestyle.
As the 2026 Thomas O. Davis Award recipient, Gael is recognized for her commitment to public service and the thoughtful ways she helps connect residents to Parks and Recreation programs and to one another.
