"Jazzmin is one of the most selfless, service oriented firefighters I’ve ever met, and always goes far beyond what’s expected of her. Decatur Fire has received multiple comments on her professional, caring treatment of patients on emergency medical incidents. Rullan-Munson doesn’t ever hear a request for service and think “That’s not our job.” If a call comes in for an animal in distress, she’s one of the first ones to volunteer to assist. Additionally, she’s always eager to help with community risk reduction programs, something that firefighters can shy away from in addition to their regular daily duties. Rullan-Munson is passionate about our child passenger safety seat program and ensures every parent who comes in for assistance leaves with the seat expertly installed and that they have all of the information they will need to keep their child safe in a collision. She designed an information card for parents to take with them when they leave and has also requested to become an instructor for Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Once, when a child seat giveaway and installation event for Afghani refugees was scheduled on her day off, Rullan-Munson came in on her own time to assist so Afghani mothers would have a woman present to make it more comfortable. She’s also taught CPR to those refugees and instructed mothers at the Women’s Clinic of Atlanta on safe child seat use.
Knowing that our personnel serve the community better when morale is high, she created several bulletin boards around the station featuring our firefighters, pictures of them at work, and accomplishments they’ve achieved. She buys the materials for the boards with her own money and hired an artist to create a logo for her shift at her own expense. In order to make station tours more informative and interactive for children, she took the initiative to create an amazing PowerPoint presentation that is engaging, entertaining, and conveys the messages that any of them have the ability to be firefighters. Firefighter Rullan-Munson has recently indicated that she intends to take the promotional exam for Fire Inspector in order to interact with even more community members and keep them safe. If Thomas O. Davis were alive today and met her, he would be proud that she was the recipient of the award that bears his name."
