Black Lives Matter Street Painting

Black Lives Matter Street Painting in Downtown Decatur, Georgia

In August 2020, hundreds of community volunteers, organizers, and artists showed up in Downtown Decatur to create this street painting along North McDonough Street proclaiming “Black Lives Matter.”

Designed by three Black artists — Sharanda Wilburn, Petie Parker, and George F. Baker III — Decatur’s project puts a colorful twist on the standard yellow Black Lives Matter street paintings, with each word designed by a different artist. The location of this display of collaborative creativity was chosen because it runs in front of the campus of Decatur High School and is a prominent thoroughfare in the downtown area.
