This program is designed to reduce speeding in school zones, thereby lowering the risk of crashes and injuries, particularly those involving children. The school zone safety program currently includes five (5) school locations. The City of Decatur Police Department, in partnership with Blue Line Solutions, LLC, has implemented a comprehensive initiative focused on safety, education, and public awareness.
The automated photo speed enforcement program was implemented in October 2024. Through a communications process and a 30-day grace period where warnings were issued.

School zones are marked with posted speed limit signs, a combination of flashing lights, and other tools to notify drivers of the reduced speed limits.
- Motorist exceeding the speed limit by 10+ MPH will receive a citation with a $100 fine.
- Motorist exceeding the speed limit are fined $150 for subsequent violations.
- Photo speed cameras will be active on school days during school zone hours.
