Decatur is famously family friendly no matter what your definition of family. We have eight parks, many with newly renovated and expanded playgrounds where exuberant running and jumping are encouraged. And we have three pools, including a brand new pool in McKoy park that features a "beach entry" access pool, a bubbler, and lap lanes for adults.
Bike Decatur
Bike-friendly Decatur is on the P.A.T.H Foundation Stone Mountain trail, a 19-mile shared-use trail that connects the Martin Luther King Center to Stone Mountain Park's bike/pedestrian facility that circles the mountain. Fifteen miles of this trail are greenway trails, with the remaining four miles on road. The Decatur segment includes paved pathways and some road miles that take you down quiet tree-lined streets. In addition, Decatur has bike lanes on many main thoroughfares. The newest bike lanes extend to the western boundary of the city at Ponce de Leon Avenue where they connect to lanes installed by the city of Atlanta.
