Biking In Decatur

Silver Seal

The City of Decatur is a Bicycle Friendly Community

The League of American Bicycles has named the City of Decatur a Bronze Level BFC! Decatur continues to make infrastructure and programming improvements to increase the safety as well as the prevalence of bicycling. With the addition of bike lanes and sharrows, bike valet parking at major events, bike safety training and more, the city has seen a large increase in the number of cyclists over the past years.

PATH Master Plan

The City Commission has adopted the Decatur PATH Foundation Connectivity and Implementation Plan. The plan identifies 9.2 miles of bicycle and pedestrian trail improvements in 7 segments at a cost of approximately $12 million over a 10-year period. When implemented, it will provide a safe network of protected bike lanes throughout Decatur and beyond, including connections to important regional destinations such at the Atlanta BeltLine and Emory University.

The plan recommends the Commerce Drive Cycle Track as the first segment for implementation. This will provide a connection with two city-approved bicycle and pedestrian improvements, the North McDonough Streetscape Improvements and the planned Church Street Cycle Track.

The plan was prepared by the PATH Foundation, its consultant, the Kaizen Collaborative, and a steering committee of Decatur residents and city staff.
