Youth Basketball

2023-2024 YOUTH BASKETBALL

Coed Basketball

The greatest place to shoot hoops is with Decatur Parks and Recreation! Decatur Parks and Recreation offers coed leagues for children ages 5-17 and an All Girls League for girls ages 7-14. . Each player receives a jersey, shorts and end-of-the-season award. Practices will be held at local gyms. Games will begin on Saturday, December 2, 2023 through February 3, 2024. Super Hooper Week will begin the week of February 5, 2024 and conclude on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Basketball Skills Assessment

All players are required to attend a skill assessment. No player will be placed on a team until completing an assessment. All assessment sessions will be held at Decatur Recreation Center and are scheduled as follows:

Players who cannot attend on their scheduled day may make arrangements to attend another session.

All Girls Basketball League

The league is open to girls ages 7-8, 9-10 and 11-13. Teams will practice once a week and have one game on Saturdays. Games will be played at Oakhurst Recreation Center Legacy Park and Ebster Gym.

Junior/Senior Basketball League

Polish the jump shot by participating in the Junior/ Senior Coed League for ages 13-17. This program is a more competitive program and is an excellent way to put the final polish on basketball skills.

RETURNING THIS SEASON

Competitive basketball for boys grades 5th-8th and Middle School Girls. Due to the success of the program, Decatur Parks and Recreation will continue to offer the competitive program. Teams will practice twice a week and have games on Saturdays. Teams will participate in the Premier Sportz Group League (PSG). Teams will compete against other middle school teams. Players must tryout for these teams. Tryouts will be held on Monday, October 23 and 24 at Ebster Gym.

Coaches - We need you!

If you enjoy the game and like working with young people, why not volunteer as a coach? To qualify, complete a coaches application and complete the online certification at www.nays.org.

We focus on enhancing the self-esteem of every participant, while striving to help each child develop fundamental skills, learn sportsmanship and have fun. We believe all players should feel themselves strongly supported by parents, coaches and teammates.
