    The Decatur City Commission is pleased to announce they will enter into negotiations with current Assistant City Manager Andrea Arnold to become Decatur’s next City Manager. It is anticipated that an agreement with Ms. Arnold will be ratified at the City Commission Meeting on December 17, 2018.

    Decatur City Manager Announces Retirement

    Decatur City Manager Peggy Merriss announced her retirement from the City of Decatur effective December 31, 2018. Merriss joined the city staff in 1983 as the personnel director, committing to serving two years. She held that position for six years and was named assistant city manager in 1989.

    The City of Decatur offers Neighborhood Clean-Up days once a year to help residents dispose of bulky items that don't easily fit into Pay-As-You-Throw bags. Each street in the city is assigned to a Saturday between March and June. Dates for the 2017 event are now available.

  • Railroad Crossing Closures update

    CSX will close the McDonough St. railroad crossing Mon., Feb. 2 and Tues., Feb. 3 for railroad tie maintenance. The Candler St. crossing will be closed Tues., Feb. 3 and Wed., Feb. 4. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will be directed to detours at either the East Lake Drive or Commerce Drive underpasses.

    Repaving of Ansley St. started on Monday, and as sometimes happens, an unexpected water leak issue developed. The city is currently working with DeKalb County to replace and upgrade the water system underneath Ansley St. before finishing the repaving process.

    Overnight lane closure on E Trinity

    Starting Tuesday, June 24 one lane of traffic on East Trinity Place between N McDonough St and Church St will be closed overnight so AT&T can install a new service. All work by AT&T will be done between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

    Utility work on W Ponce

    Georgia Power started utility work Monday, June 9 at the intersection of W Ponce de Leon Ave and Fairview Ave. During the day, work will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. When the project gets to the point where it crosses W Ponce, there will be some overnight work (7 p.m. – 6 a.m.) that will require street closures.

  • Notice of Property Tax Increase

    The Decatur City Commission has tentatively adopted a combined millage rate of 13.00 mills which will require an increase in property taxes of 6.71% for fiscal year 2014-2015. This is the same millage rate adopted for the current fiscal year 2013-2014 which generates revenue necessary to fund the City of Decatur’s general operations, bonded indebtedness, downtown development authority and capital improvements. The millage rate is not increasing.
