The City of Decatur Personnel Office is part of the Administrative Services Division. The City of Decatur consistently seeks to recruit, hire and retain personnel who will represent the city's mission, core values, and have the skills necessary to perform the job today and tomorrow. It is the responsibility of this division to continually assess, recommend and implement equitable and fair compensation and benefits for all employees and retirees. Currently the City of Decatur has 204 full-time positions, 150 part-time seasonal staff and 70 retirees.

The City of Decatur is in compliance with Georgia Code (O.C.G.A. Section 13-10-91), which requires all public employers register and participate with E-verify. The City of Decatur has been participating in the E-Verify system since November 15, 2007. The City of Decatur ID number is 67951.

The Personnel Director is responsible for creating, leading, and implementing a high performance organizational culture in alignment with the City’s vision, mission, and values through the execution of best practices in personnel management. The position is specifically responsible for providing oversight, direction, and tactical work in recruitment and hiring, employee relations, employee/retiree benefit program management, worker’s compensation administration, HRIS/Payroll/E-time technology, and employee/manager training and professional development.

Personnel Specialist

The Personnel Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining the City’s culture and organizational goals through the recruitment, hiring and onboarding of all regular full-time and temporary/seasonal positions. In addition, this position markets, coordinates and conducts employee training and development programs City-wide. The Personnel Specialist also supports the City’s Wellness Program initiative and provides some back up assistance in payroll and benefits..

Payroll & Benefits Coordinator

The payroll and benefits coordinator ensures the timely processing of payroll, provides assistance with benefits administration, leads internal wellness programs, provides maintenance and training of the payroll/electronic timekeeping system, and assists with new employee onboarding.  The payroll and benefits coordinator also provides some back up assistance in recruitment and training.
