SkaterAid Battles Cancer with Creativity
Sept. 26 • 2-7 p.m.
SkaterAid, a skateboarding, music and art festival, returns for a sixth year to Decatur on Sept. 26, 2-7 p.m., at East Decatur Station, 109 New St. The festival caters directly to teens and features ramps, jumps and contests for skateboarders as well as demonstrations by professional skaters. Teen bands from area high schools provide the music.
A skateboard deck art auction is held throughout the day, with a selection of art created by professional and “outsider” artists from used skateboard decks. All proceeds generated by the event are donated to families who are battling pediatric brain cancer.
SkaterAid’s mission is to support families who are dealing with the tragedy of pediatric cancer. Since 2007, all proceeds from SkaterAid have been donated to the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children (BTFC). Established in 1983 in Atlanta, the BTFC was the first nonprofit organization in the United States to focus specifically on the issue of brain tumors in children.
SkaterAid is now actively recruiting volunteers, auditioning bands and seeking donations of used skateboards. Contact them at www.skateraid.net or become a fan of SkaterAid on Facebook.
