2006 Beer Tasting Festival Grant Recipients Announced

The 2006 Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival in October was a great success thanks to the continued support of the community, the volunteers and the many sponsors. Every year the festival makes it a priority to give back to the community, donating proceeds to many Decatur organizations and nonprofit groups.

The 2006 festival committee distributed proceeds to:

Decatur Fire Department – to help purchase heat-seeking cameras.

Trees Atlanta – to help fund the planting of 100 shade trees along Howard Avenue and in the newly established Oakhurst Arboretum where markers will be placed to identify tree species.

Decatur Preservation Alliance – to fund a native plant restoration project at Woodlands Garden.

Decatur Education Foundation and Winnona Park PTSA – to design a comprehensive school grounds habitat and environmental education plan in conjunction with the Oakhurst Community Garden Project.

Decatur Police Department – to help purchase automated defibrillators and train personnel in their use.
