Decatur must be prepared to deal with a host of potential disasters.

Working together, the Fire and Police Departments coordinate the city's emergency planning, response and recovery efforts to ensure the city is as well prepared as possible for any emergency. In addition, the Public Works Department is considered to be a "first responder" and works in partnership with fire and police.

The city has long had a basic emergency management services model designed for use on any incident. This model will be expanded to meet evolving needs of the community.
