Powerful Tools for Caregivers – A Living Well Workshop
Tuesdays, September 5th – October 10th at 10:30am – 12pm
Decatur Recreation Center
A FREE six-week series specifically designed to help caregivers learn to take better care of themselves. It does not teach hands-on care or focus on disease conditions. Participants will learn to reduce stress, improve caregiving confidence, establish balance in their lives, communicate their needs, make tough decisions and locate helpful resources. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is A Living Well Workshop through the Atlanta Regional Commission.


B Nourished Now with B. Hunter, Nutrition Consultants
Wednesdays, September 6th – November 22nd at 11:30am
Decatur Recreation Center
Topics will include: Healthy Eating in the Prime of Your Life, Cooking for Less than a Crowd, Using Herbs and Spices to Jazz Up Your Taste Palate and Eating Well on Your Budget. Each class will include practical tips to use at home, recipes, class discussion and hands-on food preparation and eating. Fees are $12/$14 for a drop-in, $40/$50 for a monthly fee.


Qigong for Health & Longevity
Saturday, September 9th at 10am – 5pm
Decatur Recreation Center
Join Sifu Tom Hardy in 5 sessions, 2 each on Golden Lotus/Incense Enhance Qigong, beginning Tai Chi Internal Push Hands and an Introduction to Daoist Meditation. The fee is$125 for the whole day or $75 for the half day. Payments must be in advance by September 1st. No late entry at the door or the day of seminar. Long Term Care 101
Tuesday, September 19th at 7pm
Decatur Recreation Center
Learn the basics of Long Term Care coverage and how to evaluate it to determine if it’s a proper fit for you. Seminar examines home health care, assisted living, nursing home care and how to build a policy to fit an individual’s needs. Learn how to evaluate LTC coverage proposals from different providers. Free.


Terri’s Training for Dogs and People – Dog Obedience Training Class
Wednesdays, September 27th – November 8th at 10am
Saturdays, September 30th – November 11th at 10am

Decatur Recreation Outdoor Classroom
Class helps owner work together with their dog to become more confident, secure and happy companions. The class focuses on learning and practicing basic dog obedience manners such as sit, down, stay, focus and come; as well as solving dog problem behaviors. Meditation & Mindfulness: Sowing the Seeds of Peace

This meditation course takes the mystery out of meditation and guides you every step of the way. This is an 8 week series. It’s a perfect program for anyone, whether you are a beginner or want to enhance your meditation practice. You’ll discover the essentials of a successful meditation, what meditation is, what it isn’t, experiences you might have, and the many benefits that will unfold for you when your learn to meditate.


Medicare Basics – Understanding the Maze

Did you know that Medicare A & B pays only about 48% of your Medical Expenses in retirement. Learn how the other Medicare plans can help eliminate more expenses in this education-only class. Build an understanding of Medicare Part A & B, Part C (Medicare Advantage) and Park D (Prescription Drug Plan). Learn when & how to apply, deductibles and what factors to include in choosing the right plan or combination of plans. A brief overview of Medigap (Supplement) plan is also provided. Free


Bicycling Smart
Saturday, October 21st at 10 am
$10 per person

This class is developed by Nedra Deadwyler, Safety Education Program Manager, as an abridged version of the Traffic Skills 101 class. There will be an hour of classroom time and an hour for an instructional ride. During the two hours, participants will learn the following in the classroom and actively practice safe riding practices on a bike ride. In this class you will learn bike basics and rules of the road. For this class, all participants are required to know how to ride a bike and must bring their own bicycle and helmet.


Adventures in Jewelry Making
Thursdays, November 2nd – December 7th, at 10am
Decatur Recreation Center
Join us for a jewelry making tour of the world! This journey will not only teach the basics of jewelry making, but also give you a glimpse of Native American culture and the opportunity to experience parts of Africa, Asia and India; and as you reimagine and create beautiful, culturally inspired pieces. The fees for the session is $50/$60 and a drop in rate of $10/$15. All supplies are included.


Retirement Planning for Women
Tuesday, November 28th at 7pm
Decatur Recreation Center
Women have more challenges in retirement planning than men. Over 85% of Americans over the age of 85 are women. This workshop covers the areas of 1) providing funding for their longer life expectancy, 2) identifying the higher Long Term Care and medical costs, 3) assembling a general plan for all those areas. We also discuss tough issues of “do I retire early to care for a parent?”, “dignity and independence” and more. Additional financial and social issues are covered so that the attendee can begin formulating their unique plan.
