Fire Department Maintains ISO Class 2 Insurance Rating
The Decatur Fire Department recently underwent an Insurance Services Office (ISO) inspection audit that reconfirmed its ISO Class 2 rating. This rating allows Decatur residents and businesses to receive lower property insurance premiums.
The Decatur Fire Department is one of only eight fire departments in Georgia and one of 374 in the nation to receive a Class 2 rating. ISO rates a community using criteria defined in the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). Ratings are 1 to 10 with 1 being exemplary public protection and 10 indicating less than minimum recognized protection.
Decatur’s Class 2 rating represents a multi-department effort and is a positive step forward for public safety in our community. Three major aspects of the Fire Department were evaluated:
- Fire alarm and communication systems;
- Fire Department infrastructure; and
- Water supply systems.
The department operates two fire stations equipped with seven fire trucks (four pumper trucks, one aerial ladder truck, one rescue truck and one air-and-light truck). Forty employees, including four administrative chiefs, work in three shifts (24 hours on/48 hours off). The response area is 4.2 square miles with approximately 20,000 citizens during evening hours and as many as 60,000 citizens during working hours.
