Each year in December, residents brave the cold (and sometimes rain!) to gather around a bonfire on the square for a marshmallow roast. Decatur firefighters stand by in the background to keep an eye on the flames and douse the fire afterward.

The Old Courthouse on the Square, located at the intersection of Clairemont Road. and Ponce de Leon Avenue, is one of Decatur's and DeKalb County's most recognized landmarks. It was originally constructed in 1897 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

 Glennwood Elementary School is the oldest school in the City of Decatur and one of the four oldest schools in DeKalb County still in operation today. It was recently renovated with the addition of new classrooms, a new media center, air conditioning, and upgraded to facilitate the use of new technology.
