Technology

The City's technology initiatives are governed by a technology committee consisting of representatives of all departments.  The technology committee evolved from the City's Y2K planning efforts in 1999. In the absence of City technology staff, the City of Decatur contracts with VC3, Inc. (www.vc3.com ) for technology support services.

The technology committee developed an Egovernment Plan in 2001. The Egovernment plan describes how the City will use technology to provide interactive services and information through the Internet and other electronic means, such as on-line recreation class registration and access to property tax information. Over the years the technology committee has implemented numerous projects from the plan including a redesign of the City's website, online payments for police citations and parking tickets, purchase of recreation registration software, and other internal technology improvements.

The technology committee also develops technology-related policies and procedures and coordinates computer training.

Current and forthcoming projects include the implementation of citizen request management and work order software, emergency notification system, and web-based recreation registration. The City was recently awarded a grant from the Governor's office for a citywide wireless network
