About the Greespace Commission

The Decatur Greenspace Commission was established by the City Commission in 2002. The Commission grew out of a recommendation from the Greenspace Task Force that met from 2001-2002 and presented its final report to the City Commission in March 2002. This report laid out a guiding vision for greenspace in the community and a set of recommendations on how to realize that goal. Among the recommendations was the creation of a permanent Greenspace Commission. After six years, the Greenspace Commission is being folded into the new Environmental Sustainability Advisory Board to address environmental issues, including greenspace preservation, in a more holistic manner.
