What does "sustainability" mean for the City of Decatur?

Decatur Sustainability ModelThe City of Decatur has a commitment to ensuring a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors both today and in the future. Sustainability includes efforts to protect and preserve natural resources, maintain economic vitality, support smart growth development, create community, support active living, and provide opportunities to live, work and play. This is not a new concept for Decatur.  Our Master Plans, the City Commission's goals and vision, and the organization's implementation plans have always been based on making sure that we are good stewards of our resources.  We have developed a sustainability model to guide our efforts which includes four categories; Environmental, Economic, Organizational/Institutional, and Community.
